Default Assen for MotoGP

Hi all,

I'm looking for some info from anyone who has been before.

We're thinking of leaving the UK early on Thursday morning and having a stop-over somewhere halfway (ish) between Calais and Assen.

Does anyone know if there are camping facilities at the circuit?

Any other input would be great!

it's only 380 odd miles from the ferry, we used to get an early ferry (or eurostar) and make it to the circuit that day, means you can have a few beers as you don't have to ride the following one, good fast roads up to there so fairly easy to do.

yeah you can camp directly outside the entrance, normally tents to the left and motorhomes/ caravans to the right, good party atmosphere, lots of signs for camping before you get there, but ignore them all, nothing like waking to the sound of bikes warming up round the track.

you can pretty much get all the food and drink you need at the track so no need to leave the circuit unless you want to.

Cheers Mark.

Thanks Mark,

So is the camping put on by the circuit, and do you have to pay extra for it?

Any advice for grandstand seating vs. grass banking?

yeah the camping is actually in the circuit grounds, can't remember how much, but don't think it was anymore expensive, as I remember entrance got you access to the normal seating and anywhere around the track and it was extra for the grandstand (start/finish straight), in reality you can't see 3/4 of the track from there, so a bit further down is better, but they also have several large screen and show the back of the track on these.

Cheers Mark.

Ahh jealous - you'll have a great time!

+1 to what Rictus has said re the camping. There's no need to pre-arrange, you just pitch up and pay when you get there.

That's putting it mildly!! Don't expect any sleep, and take a camera as it's the maddest place you'll ever stay...

You MUST go into Assen town centre the Friday night before the race. The street party is like nothing the'd get away with here. And all done in the friendliest atmosphere. Not going this year (going to France instead) but already looking forward to next year.

We stayed in Vakantiepark Witterzomer the last couple of times. It's like a big park with caravans, permanent tents and pitches. It's half way between town and track - walkable both ways (but a good 40 mins). Very clean with good (but fairly basic) facilities. Loads of bikers but lots of families too so it was party-ish without being crazy mental. Loved the track camping but it truly is full-on ......

Cheers all, I'm just having trouble finalising camping arrangements as I've heard a few different opinions.

I've emailed the circuit so will hopefully hear from them tomorrow.

If you want to stop just passed Calais (~ 30 miles passed IIRC) this place is an experience:
