Default After a Good campsite in the Peak District

Hi guys

Could anyone recommend a decent campsite they've stayed at in the peaks? Planning a camping weekend for me and a mate whos hoping to pass his bike test in the spring. Idea is to give him a guided tour of some of the good roads I know of and couple of nights camping. Mainly want to show him woodhead pass, snake pass, bouncy bits near edale, cat & widdle, matlock bath and the road that goes by wigtwizzle

Bit like this

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...,1.229095&z=10

I've done the start from Holmfirth (Thongsbridge to be precise ) just because it seemed the easiest and i'd found a campsite there. Not liking some of the reviews of its pitches though. So are there any you know of along that route you'd recommend? Feel free to suggest alternative routes/add-ons as i'm not as familiar with the roads round there as the ones up north

Ta

That's at birchover which is pretty well -placed for where you want. We stayed there on the peaks weekend which was aranged by Lissa & Binky. Might be some ideas for routes on the old threads but the bits you've mentioned sound good.

There's also a couple of goodn's in edale but I don't know how biker friendly they are.

looks good! Cheap and like you say well placed for that route, thanks dave

Locals arent too shabby either

Fieldhead in Edale looks alright but think you have to park up and walk to the pitches. Don't fancy that

YouTube Video
Error: If you cannot see this video, then either YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed to play it.

Here's the vid from L&B's rideout, it was chopped together in a hurry so don't know if you can make out any of the route but there's more of the sexy locals at the end

Well... how to say this... road positioning needs some work IMHO. I shuddered at the body lean over double white lines with a bike oncoming. Course, the camera can't see round corners whereas the rider probably could, so this mightn't be the entire story. But it looks like the rider is trying hard to keep up and literally cuts (too many) corners. Just my 2p.

You can't go wrong with the campsite davenumbers has posted. Perfect location and great village. I've been back a few times since, the burger and lasange in the Red Lion are amazing but I've found you need to book a couple of week in advance if you want to get in there.

They've one a couple of awards recently and now it's a right pain to get in for food.
