Default Repainting your fairings a different colour?

Hello all, just wanted some advice on painting your fairings.
I have bought some lower fairings to put on my bike but they are blue and they need to be black. There is a little bit of road rash damage on one of them so i think i will need to use the plastic primer. But will i need to use it all over????
Should i just rub them down roughly at first just so the primer has something to grip to, and then go over it with the black? (I know, i have simplified the whole procedure massively)
I don't want to be seeing loads of blue chips in the paint work after 12 months if i can help it. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Carl

Can't help answer your question directly, but I had my lowers sprayed by my paint guy from blue to silver.

I guess you'll have to spray them all over with primer first as this will affect the final outcome.

And yes I think you'll have to rub them down as well.

Sure some paint guys will give you some better answers than me

I forget, and my paint guy already had the paint from spraying my undertray, mudguard and top fairing after an repair to my tank.

The paint is the most expensive part, about £48 for a tiny tin!

But I think it was about £100 for him to do this for me, but he's a good bloke and doesn't charge the earth as others might do.
