My last two bikes had Datatool alarms. Never, never, never again. Just search for Datatool on this site to see how many problems people have with them.
I've now got a Xena alarmed disc lock. Much better IMO. |

Dont bother with an alarm everyone just ignores them anyway, big chain is what you need.
The usual method is either pick bike up and load into a van or break steering lock and ride away being pushed along by someone on another bike. If the alarm is sounding they will move it out of sight remove or smash the alarm then use methods above. |

i have 2 sv's with 2 alarms . meta v2 (cat1) and datatool 3 (cat1)
if i had the choice id never have put them on (got both 2nd hand) they are the biggest pain in the ar5e you will ever find, plus they dont drop the insurance enough to warrent them if you take into account hasstle. price, lenght most people keep a bike for as said big feck off chain and ground anchor |

My Datatool alarm is pretty good and acts as a warning that some scrote is playing with my bike, so I can then go out and chase them off while wielding either a foot and a half long Adjustable spanner or a rubber whip and ... (Deleted for good taste!)
Anyway, my Datatool is one the very rare ones that has not yet played up. I do lock the bike in a garage at night and have two mahusive chains and a ground anchor, but then I love my bike and if I could, I would park her in my bedroom at night! My advice is make it as hard to steal as possible, I use a combination of two huge chain locks, a disk lock and the ground anchor and lock all three bikes together. Anyone who can pull out a severely knackered Kwaka GTR 1000 with seized brakes and a ground anchor is probably not some one I would really want to start a fight with, so Good insurance is also worth while too. |

I have a Spy 5000M one on 2 of my bikes.
I cant really fault them at all. Pretty god bang for you buck with them. I also use an Almax seies III chain with a Disc lock. |

Don't worry, it's a curvy so nobody will steal it
![]() But seriously, if you're in an area where there's lots of scrotes who nick bikes I'd go with alarmed disk lock through the front and an Almax chain attaching the back wheel to a solid ground anchor. Then borrow a f*** off big dog and a pickaxe handle. When the first scrote tries to nick your bike, turn up with your lid and leathers on, the pickaxe handle ready and the dog suitably riled. Word will soon get out. Then you can give the dog back to it's owner and get a refund on the pickaxe handle. Keith |
