Honda CBR250R a viable alternative?

I was jsut reading this about the Honda CBR250R and it states that it has "the power to carry two people effortlessly"

Do you really think this would be the case?

how big are the People?

Looks nice and tempted just wish it had a bit more power even if up to 33bhp or even better a twin but I think it would be a big step down after riding a 1000cc tourer for all these years.

its capable but effortlessly??? cant have that much torque for a single 250cc

It's not just about the engine, it's the chassis that makes it feel safe or not. I sat on one at the bike show, I can't imagine it carrying two proper grown ups effortlessly, functionally maybe. Then again, you could find two young adults who weigh the same as me put together

I could see one as a commuter and use the SV for weekends out two up, but could justify the two bikes

We had one out at the weekend not sure on two up - but great communter bike, cheap to insure and MPG is fanatstic - I had that and the Kwak until this year. Its not that expensive and easily justified. I founf it no more expensive keeping the two

Why sell something as practical and cover it in impossible to replace tupperware that will write every single one of them off when the (either short or female first time buyer...) inevitably drops them?
And a pillion seat that looks like it will give most 125s a run for their money in discomfort...

Buy a GPX 250 instead.

buy an old CB250 superdream, sand all painted surfaces down and paint matt black, put ape hangers on it and have a back rest on the pillion seat,

it looks better than the CBR250 and most likely will have you smiling more.

I am 6'2". My girlfriend is 5'11". There is absolutely zero possibility that it'd carry us "effortlessly". It'd handle terribly and be utterly castrated when it came to power two up. My F800GS with lowered pegs and raised seat and bars is more cramped and less powerful than I'd like when two up! A Goldwing carries two people "effortlessly", you don't really notice any difference when you have a pillion on that.

I'm not saying the CBR250R wouldn't technically be able to carry two people; hell you see plenty of CUB50s and CUB90s in the third world with as many as 4 people on them. It's just not a particularly enjoyable way of travelling.
