Default Just saw a hit an run...kind of.

Hi all,

I heard a crash outside my window, looked out and there was a smashed up bike and the car that had it her, the driver had got out, looked at the biker writhing around on the floor, got back in, and sped off. By this time there were loads of pedestrians/witnesses around and as I didn't see the actual accident I didn't want to add to the crowd, however about 10 minutes later, from my vantage point of a second floor flat I saw the car park up about 200m down the road, stop for a few seconds and casually drive past (i guess to see if the biker was ok) and speed off again. No one at the scene noticed this. I managed to get the reg this time.

By this time the police had arrived and I told them what I had seen. Gave my details and went on my way. About 15 minutes (so about 30 mins after the accident) later the car in question pulled up and casually got out and admitted to the police it was him who hit the biker.

The biker was taken off in an ambulance and after 5 miinutes questioning the driver was sent on his merry way.

I'm not happy about this, was this a hit and run??

A hit and run that wasn't carried out fully I guess. The fact he came back and owned up to it will work in his favour I'm guessing. I really don't know how people have the conscience to bugger off in the first place. Really hope the biker's not in too serious a condition. Well done for getting the reg number.

Leaving the scene of any accident is an offence in itself.

She was talking and when i said I had the reg number she tried to get up and rip the paper out of my hand lol. She had broken fingers but said she was ok otherwise. She was leathered up so all good in that department.

A bit miffed as the police took the paper I had written the reg on and it had my shopping list on the other side...

What a tw*t.

He drove off initially which speaks volumes for what type of person he is. If he drove casually by the second time round and the bikers head was hanging off his neck would he have stopped later and confessed I wonder? Who knows.

Good work getting his reg though/

And you know he told the police "oh there was nowhere safe to stp...etc, etc" for 30 minutes? and a drive by? I feel like phoning the police and reitterating that he drove off and did a drive by...

The scumbag got out the car, noticed he'd nearly killed someone and then drove off without a second thought! I would definitely phone the police back and make it clear.

Yep, I agree, he wanted to see how serious it was before fess'ing up, squeal on his ass, the next person he hits might not be as lucky.

Yes, it was a hit and run, no doubt. It actually doesn't matter what he did afterwards, he left the scene of an accident (though the actions afterwards are further incriminating IMO!)

The police said they may phone me tonight or tomorrow for a statement, so i'll see if they call me 1st. Bt the fact they let him get back in his car and drive off, makes me think they're not interested in pursuing it... even though I gave the correct reg, they put out the "look out for this car thing" on the radio and THEN 10 minutes later he pulls up... doesn't seem right...
