Why fire off a nasty email to the ACU? I'd have thought at best they'll tell you to 'like it or lump it' - after all I believe it's always over-subscribed so it's not like they're going to be begging for riders, or at worst they'll just tell you not to bother applying as you won't be selected. Now I don't know what your background or experience is but I'd say if you want to race - do it or if you feel it's not worth the effort for 'only' 3 laps then bin the idea - your choice !

yep your right a 113 road race is full on, very full on, just as full on as a 13 mile club race at mallory, to be fair i think i should invite the riders who have entered the manx this year to coment, while i go back to the mgp web site and read it once again ......rob

Usually just a "lurker" on sv site as its handy to pick up repair tips and bits and bobs for sale etc. However I'm doing Newcomers MGP this year and Supertwins on my minitwin spec curvy. I think a 3 lap race is plenty as a newcomers outing as has been said its still 113 miles, enough for me. Supertwins is 4laps later in the week so plenty of track time there. Just my opinion a competitor.

i think the thinking behind it is, the newcomers get there own race on saturday, not a mixed class, if that is the case , i am wrong, that would be a good idea,

They cut the main manx gp from 6 to 4 laps a few years ago, as competitors at the Manx are amature racers. Not the super fit profesional sportsman that are todays top racers. The reason for this was because people were having lots of accidents in the last two laps, a few were fatalities!!!!!!. So three laps for the newcomers, unless you are a profesianal is really quite enough I think, but if you want to paste yourself all over the manx countryside then off you go. Just make sure you dont take anyone else with you!!!!

13 miles around a race circuit with nice run off areas (if needed !) 113 miles around a ROAD circuit with kerbs & walls (whether you need/like them or not !)

I think you need to look at what your undertaking
113 miles is about what an F1 driver does a race. Put the Manx into context You get wrong- Your in hospital You get it seriously wrong- Your killed You overcook it- Your in the wall You f*** up over the mountain- Your in hospital or killed A road circuit is completely different to a race circuit, theres no run off the margin of error is even tighter. Your on full throttle a damm sight longer than on a race circuit (The Rapid Ducati's were on full throttle 42s on the run to University corner at the NW200, Monza is 14s which is one of the longest straights in the world). The ultra-light front runners go through the speed trap at around 145 mph. Now have think about what a challenge this will be

If you get the tank modded to take an extra 3/4 litres you'll be able to do 3 laps without a pitstop. |
