Default dowton abbey aviva bike advert

Why does it keep showing a motorbike accident with funeral tones in the background? Not very nice if you ask me!

I don't mind "Think Bike" adverts, or any government safety campaigns - but a company trying to make money by scare-mongering isn't good!

My family watch Downton Abbey - and I cringe every time the advert is on - they're not particularly over the moon about my bike...

I mean, um, "What's Downton Abbey?" ha.

Tell me about it I'm at my parents for the weekend and they already hate the fact that I ride a bike and as you say I cringe everytime they show this and a sour silence descends on the room. Not good!

PS They make me watch it haha

Wow megs - that's a tough break!

I used a couple of things to placate them:
-BikeSafe
-Rospa/IAM training
-HitAir air-bag protection vest (£260 - a wise investment)

If anybody feels the same, you can complain to Ofcom here:

I managed to catch that advert last night before
A) I turned it over to Emergency Bikers on watch
B) I realised that downtown abbey was on and is actually ****.

I agree though it doesnt show a good picture for bikes, simply they will crash and die, is that the message they are getting accross?

It would be better if the ad showed the full picture... SMIDSY - IE plank of a car driver pulling out from a junction CAUSING the accident in the first place.
Would go well with the think bike campaign then too.

I agree collis - I didn't have a problem with the think bike campaign - but trying to make money off the back of the advert is wrong, in my opinion.

I've not watched Downton Abbey but I saw some of the pre-launch stuff about Aviva's advertising in the insurance press. It's pushing income protection cover, so the cause of the bike accident isn't really relevant in that context.

Apparently it's a true story. The lad involved came off his bike and lost his job due to his injuries. Luckily for him he had Aviva income protection cover and, over several of these ident videos, you'll see the rest of his story up to the nailbiting finish where he gets a slightly less well paid job but the good old Aviva keep making up the difference (terms and conditions may apply, your home could be at risk etc etc).

If you're not depressed enough at the end of that, then you can look forward to Aviva's next thrilling "mini-drama". Also a true story, it's about a young mum diagnosed with cancer...
