Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has been crazy enough to think about running forced induction on the SV650 engine, I know as stock its got an 11.5:1 CR which is good for NA, but if I am correct the engine can take Hyabusa pistons etc and I know you can get lower compression pistons for that engine, or I could lower the compression ratio with thicker head gaskets etc Just wondering if anyone has tried to run forced induction on this engine ![]() |

Engine will be used for a 1/4 mile at a time, I have a spare GT25R from a Skyline R34 GTR in the garage - ceramic exhaust wheel and ball bearings will give a nice fast spool

all things are possible with enough money and expertise.i did a wed search but got no hits, but i would say a turbo off a 2.8liter 500hp engine might be over the top and to make a turbo work do you not need a intercooler, i have seen a turbo intercool v max, more for looks and bike shows then speed and that used a ford set up off a sierra

I'm a very long way from being an expert, so please take my comments with an appropriate amount of salt.
1) I wouldn't expect enough gas flow from a low revving 650cc engine to spin up a Skyline turbocharger. I'd be looking at something like a Smart car turbo (Garrett GT1238S) for size. 2) The layout of the SV engine isn't good for adding a turbo because of the exhaust positions. You would have a lot of (inefficient) pipework ahead of the turbo. As the old saying goes, "If I was going there I wouldn't be starting from here." An electric blower might be an option though. It would be easier to stick a Supercharger on the motor, there is a kit for the TL's which is meant to fit on the carby motor. Best bet is to search the TL forum. Failing that NOS which has been done on the curvies

Thanks for the info guys, the Skyline GTR has 2 turbos that are smaller than the GTS, although I was thinking about looking at the smart car turbo as I know thats a 600cc engine, sounds a bit easier to supercharge it due to the carbs.
Another option would be nitrous, but that might give too much of a sudden power increase rather than a progressive increase as with the supercharger. I could always just see what can be done for an NA engine with slightly higher CR and higher lift cams and see what power gains I can get. |

the max you'd get without it going bang is around 90bhp N/A, but it'll cost around £6k to get that.

What would that involve? Im guessing uprated internals and head work?
