Not necessarily bike related. But those stupid things that you do that could have serious implications and by good luck rather than good judgement you get away with.
Mine for today. My van has a hole in the floor mat and is soaking as a result of there being a missing bung. Bought a replacement mat and set about removing the old one. First problem is the mats runs under the seat frame, so I need to remove the seats. start undoing the bolt and for the rear ones it is easier to do from behind so remove whilst in the back of the van when I feel it starting to move. another word for poo! the handbrake lever is fitted to the seat frame not floor! Can first gear hold it whilst on this hill????. Not looking good. So jump out and run to cab. One hand on foot brake whilst I try to get enough bolts in the front of the frame to hold it so I can sit on the seat sufficient to let it roll down the hill under control. then release what is left of the handbrake to pull frame in line and fit remaining bolts. Lesson for today. If you cannot see how something is fitted do not assume. Todays vehicles are assembled for cost and ease of build not necessarily for best practice. Anyone else had a near moment lately?

Was once uncoiling a cable in top of the roof of the venue I worked at. Unrolled it then felt the urge to turn 90degrees and go the other way. As I turned I realised that I was 6 inches (one more step) from walking backwards off the side of the building. Would've been a 3 story drop into an electrical substation.
Had to have a sit down after that.

My everyday life haha.
a good one was fitting a bedroom window and on ladders leaning back nearly lost my balance while trying to hold the window and fit those stupid level bung things.

My worst; working on a TV and not knowing that quite often the chassis is live. Didn't half bang the back of my head on the door 8 feet away, where I somehow finished up.
Most of mine are electrickery related, hence why my boss is probably happier now I'm driving a pen instead of a screwdriver.

Got loads but possibly the most stupid?
Belgian Metro station. 1995. Was one of a bunch of drunken lads who realised we were on the wrong side of the station. We decided it would be quicker to run across the rails to the other side. A) 'kin stupid anyway b) didn't know which direction the trains would come from c) beligian trains are really really quiet d) the platforms are higher than they look. Especially when you are at track level. We only just got over and pushed and pulled each other up when whoooosh along came the belgian train. No more than a second or two to spare. Stupid drunk Brits! Last edited by The Idle Biker; 18-03-12 at 03:00 PM. |

Once I was with this really sassy girl I just met in a club, we were going for a good while in the bedroom, and then I had a "nearly moment", but then thought about my nan on the bog and kept on going.

Used to get a packed bus home from school, must have had more stood up than sat down, anway I was stood at the door & due to kids being impaitent someone decided to press the emergancy open button. I jumped out, was only going about 5-10mph, soon as my feet touch the floor, I must have barrel rolled about 6 times and just missed a lampost. Stood up patted the lampost & walked home.
That could have been a whole different story if I'd have delayed my jump. |
