I am currently setting up an old PC as a media centre.
Most of the time I will use my Logitech Harmony remote to control XBMC However there will be the odd occasion when I will need a keyboard and mouse to do stuff on it. As I am tight I don't really want to shell out on a IR or BT keyboard, what I want to do is use my netbook as the keyboard and mouse. If I use remote desktop it logs me out of the media centre. I want to see the same on both the TV and the screen of the media centre. Is there any (preferably free) software which will let me do this. Both computers are running Windows 7 Cheers. Doesn't vnc rather than rdc allow you to do this - was reading about the same problem just the other day so its def possible to take control of the same screen rather than fire up a separate gui.

Depending on your phone theres some apps such as VLC remote (if you're using VLC to play movies) & also mouse & keyboard apps although obviously it'll make it a very small keyboard you have to type on.

Yer I have Unified remote on my phone which works pretty well. Was just after something similar for the notebook so I can use the proper keyboard.
The reason I don't want to spend much is because I told the Mrs it wasn't going to cost anything. PC was one mate was throwing out and I have already spent about £60 bits and bobs. Could have just bought a second hand media PC off ebay for £100. |

I think if you install something like vlc player you can remote control that via your android phone etc...? It does handle pretty much any media you throw at it
I guess it all depends on if you want to continue to use media center or not?
