Default Insurance write off's, who's responsible?

Hi all,

When selling a CAT reg bike/car through a garage who's responsibility is it to know? should the garage know before buying and if they do, do they have to by law infrom the buyer? and if they haven't and sold it without knowing are they at fault?

Cheers

This is what i found when quickly googled "Dealers are not obliged to volunteer information that a car has been involved in an accident to customers – but they are legally bound to tell the truth if directly asked."
Any garage buying a vehicle would HPI check the car, as would a good buyer of a vehicle. As long as the vehicle has been repaired to a good standard and inspected and declared as safe, i imagine there would be no problem.

Don't cat C cars have something on the logbook to say that the car has been previously damaged and repaired?? They require a VIC test to go back on the road and be able to get the logbook for the vehicle. Cat D don't.

The dealer I think does not have to declare anything but he must be trutfull if you ask. I have owned a couple of Cat D cars myself - it would never put me off as long as it was explained to me. Obviously Cat C & D cars are worth less than non recorded cars so it's in your interest to ask and get your own HPI really.
