I am looking to fit a standard exhaust to my K9 650 S, the bike currently has a beat up standard exhaust, never cut or changed, and I want to cut off the damaged one and replace with a fresh stock can (which I have got to hand) ahead of selling the bike
Fitting a slip on the advice is to cut 50mm up from the weld but read threads mentioning having to avoid hitting the lambda sensor, where is this? Also one thread mentioned needing to avoid a CAT, would my bike have one as a K9? (Its an SV650S K9 if that helps) If so, where is it? so I avoid it when cutting the pipe I was planning to make the cut much further up the pipe than would be the case with an aftermarket slip on, as the sleeve (below) needs to be on a straight section of pipe, then bead some sealant round it and connect and clamp down: Sleeve: Ebay item: 310274176108 Then cover the job over with the standard shroud hopefully looking good as new Any ideas on the above would be appreciated Last edited by Lee Rogers; 19-06-12 at 12:44 PM. |

Ideally, what you'd do, is get a standard pipe that hasn't been cut. You might even be able to swap with someone who wanted to fit an after-market exhaust, to save them cutting anything.
Failing that, you have 2 1/2s of a system, you need to make sure you cut the exhausts in such a place that they both have that bit of pipe with them. This probably means cutting your existing pipe exactly where the spare can has been cut. The lambda sensor is an electronic plug that comes out of the exhaust system somewhere around the place you would like to cut. Have a hunt with a torch, you'll soon see a plug and wire coming out. The CAT is internal to the link pipe, you'll probably end up cutting through it's honeycomb structure, so make sure the ends are cleaned up so they don't close off too much flow. Jambo
