Batteries - numax vs varta?
Ordered a Varta ytz14s online and when it arrived it turned out to be a Numax. The shop say it's better than the Varta as it's a gel battery, and it's all they stock in that size. I don't really believe them and I've asked for a refund. Their website only mentions Varta on their motorcycle battery section, and the pics are all of Varta batteries. It doesn't mention Numax anywhere.Opinions? Anyone tried Numax batteries?

Numax are a subsidiary of Varta/they're both subsidiaries of a bigger company. I'd be tempted if it's gel and the varta quoted was Acid - but you're within your rights to ask for a refund.

Re: Batteries - numax vs varta?
Numax is a budget brand battery, though I have one on the shogun and it works fine, I bought it on price....If you want a premium brand, bosch or varta silver line batteries were the top performers in a magazine test...they had the longest warranty too. Its the silver content that helps give them a long life.

Re: Batteries - numax vs varta?
Just seen you put the model in Ophic - google reckons theirs a £20 retail price difference between the varta and numax equivalent. I'd be getting partial or full refund (and return)

Re: Batteries - numax vs varta?
Cheers chaps - Varta I know as a big brand. Yuasa probably better but over twice the price, and I mean £130-ish from MDS, and as far as I could tell they only stock the Yuasa. Too much.
Numax I've not really heard of, can't find many opinions of online, and frankly if it was better, I doubt they'd send me one in preference on the one they advertise. Even though they say they don't stock the one they advertise...??? Probably just a rubbish misleading website, nevertheless I want a Varta and I feel somewhat ripped off. The service hasn't been great either - on the phone they said they'd look into it and phone back, although they didn't wanna say when so I pressured them to call back this afternoon. Then after a couple of hours I sent a response to their email saying I was awaiting a response. They replied to the email but I didn't get a phone call and at no point have they apologised or so much as offered an excuse.

Would you consider the 12s if applicable, that makes the yuasa affordable and possibly a better price still via MDS? If it's the 12s you're going for think you're right to go with Varta, the bike shops round here all stock them and don't have anything bad to say - think they may be based round here or have a distribution centre atleast.

Re: Batteries - numax vs varta?
ytz12s is still £125 from MDS. Don't get these mixed up with the stock YTX batteries - the YTZs have considerably higher CCA and are slightly smaller.

Re: Batteries - numax vs varta?
Just a word about the Yuasa batteries....I`d always thought they were the best, and priced accordingly....but tests showed they performed poorly compared to the bosch and varta silver.
The tests were pretty exhaustive and even included cold starts when the battery had been in sub-zero temps and repeated starts after discharge such as leaving head lights on etc |

Unless they're rip off batteries with very good labelling and packaging or extremely near death old stock - I can't work out what the fecks going on with the price difference between MDS and there. Although, 10% forum discount. edit: - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-YU...item27b01a0031
