Default Problems with fuel pump priming, Pointy.

Hi Guys,

Just after a bit of advice really, i have a K3 pointy and since riding through the last winter when i turn the key in the ignition sometime the fuel will prime but then on other occasions it will start to prime then a second later stop. Sometimes its taken a good 10 times of turning the key before it will prime fully. I have noticed that since the winter the key is a little sticky and hard to turn at times. My K3 only has 14k on the clock, could this be a sign of the ignition barrel on its way out?

Any advice would be great,

Cheers

Badeye

try wiggling the wires on the right hand side where they enter the frame. if it starts then it might be a dodgy connector or wire.

Hi,

I've recently had them out due to replacing my speedo drive but it was doing this before that and i've even cleaned all the connectors behind the headstock coz they were seriously grotty. Has anyone else had this problem?

The length of time it takes to prime is not predefined, its based on pressure in the system, if there is any issue re the pressure or pump the bike should flash up FI and the red light.
If so you need to find the way to put the bike in dealer mode to give you the error code else just try starting the bike.

i get this issue, no real reason to it, had the bike 4 years and always done it, ignition on/off a few times will normally sort it, ive also cleaned and checked all the conections more than once but none the wiser

It more annoying than anything, i have no plans to sell the SV but i can imagine something like this would put off any potential buyer. I was thinking of replacing the ignition barrel.

Mine started this a few months ago, got FI on dash most of the time, turned out to be a worn barrell.

does it do it in certain situations? mine generally only flashes up the FI light after filling up. Again, turning it off then on again seems to clear it. It runs fine and doesn't do it when running. Over winter i'll be taking apart, cleaning and checking all connections
