Default Insurance question - Does being a year older necessarily make it cheaper?

Hi org.

I am 24 in 20 something days, and I have a bike I want to get insured on. It's not going to be my work bike so it can wait. My question is, will it be any cheaper whatsoever to wait until I'm a year older in their eyes? I know 25 is meant to be a price bracket, but every year is a year closer.. Thanks.

Bennetts have an on line calculator that once you have entered your details you can go back and modify, even changing the bike. Would be worth running some figures through it to see the difference. check for alarm / garage and mileage changes as well to see if they make a difference.

At my age, changing from a TS185 trials bike to a Honda firestorm would cost an extra £50 pa, hardly worth worrying about but there might be a difference at 23/24 yeear of age.

It may or may not make a difference this year but probably will next year when you are 25.May be worth waitng the few days now if it makes no odds to you so.

minus £500 from the total and then you'll be able to work out roughly what other companies would offer you as a young male.

I remember turning 25 and being excited at the impending 'big drop' in premium at renewal time......Didn't happen.
Any drop I was likely to have got was swallowed up by increased premiums in general. IIRC I think it may have stayed roughly the same. In my experience it's building up no claims discount that will get you the better deals. Age obviously plays a part in your premium cost but don't expect anything dramatic to happen overnight just cause you have a birthday.

Im 24 going 25 this year. through out my 20's i would have expected my insurance to be cheaper then some of my 18 year old friends for both bike and car, but it wasnt.

and i have noticed having 3 NCB is where the discounts start really. My insurance for a scooter doubled this year even though i was one year older and had gone from 1 NCB to 2 NCB the policy doubled in price for a renewal.

2 years ago it cost me £500 fully comp for two sv650's on the road with 2 NCB. It cost me £500 TFT for a single sv650 with IAM pass behind me with 2 NCB.

Insurance is just another way for companies to rip you off. dread to think about my car insurance renewal.

Shucks. In India, you don't insure the driver, you insure the VEHICLE. So you only pay the cost of insuring the vehicle and that's it. You can drive anyone's car/bike without having to pay loads of money. And the traffic in India is bloody horrible as well. And insurance is much much cheaper too! So they should do that here...
