Default Can you desnorkel a curvy?

I haven't had a good look at my airbox yet, but was under the impression that the curvy didn't have a snorkel. I have come across some threads where people mention desnorkeling pre 2003 SV's. Can this mod be done, and if so would someone be able to point me in the direction of some instructions?

There is no snorkel, so you can't remove it.

when people mention desnorkaling 1st gen sv, they usually refer to cutting open the top of the
air filter (or adding extra holes) to make it similar to some aftermarket "race" filters. do an
image search and you're bound to find examples.

Had a look on google images and can't find anything. SVRider talks a lot about desnorkeled curvy's so there is obviously some way to 'desnorkel' it. Must just be modifying the top of the airbox as you say.

Thanks again Jambo. So it's basically cutting/enlarging hole in the top of the air filter. Wish they'd stop referring to it as desnorkeling

Me too...

Be aware when you do that you change (by a fair margin) the characteristics of the airflow into the air box (that's the point of course). I'd be surprised if it ran correctly without some re-jetting.

If it did, it means it was broken before.

Looks like I will have to look at re-jetting at some point then as want to improve air flow with better filter setup, tank risers, etc. I have a feeling the bike was maybe running a bit rich with the Viper end can fitted as could smell it a bit sometimes. Not exactly scientific, but a bit of an indication perhaps. Would also pop a fair bit on the roll off. Have Delkavic stubby fitted now and no rich smell at all so may have leaned things out a bit.
