Default Golf Weekend Recommendations

Hello!

It's a long shot but I'm after some of your experience.

I am trying to book a weekend away for up to about 16 people for a night stay away with a couple of rounds of golf.

Last year we stayed at Five Lakes in Essex and it was fantastic! Great evening entertainment as they had a cocktail bar with loud music etc.

My only problem is I'm trying to find similar with the same evening entertainment, the last thing I want is just a pub full of male Golfers... I just cannot find anything like this, all reviews don't tend to mention about night life either.

So... Have any of your stayed anywhere you can recommend?

Try this company http://www.golfbreaks.com/uk/default.aspx They maybe able to help. I've stayed at a few hotels/complexes they run and have been impressed by the facilities/food/rooms. Not played Golf, only stayed as a hotel guest.

Thanks, I have tried them but the ones they have recommended have either been already booked up or I cannot find any reviews that cover what I need them to meet..

I'm just too picky!

I don't play loads of Golf, just occasional. However a group of my old Football mates play a lot and for the last 15 years I go away for a long Golfing weekend with them. We did 5 Lakes which was the worse weekend we ever had, rained constantly! We've been to some really nice places and some cheap n cheerful places too. The place we've been back to 3 times is this one. Great facilities all round for the money. Food is very good, nom nom.

Depends how far you want to travel, playing at courses around St Andrews is relatively cheap, and the town is a university town... great nights out. But if you play the mains courses there it isn't cheap.

Loads of courses around Leeds, and a fantastic place for a night out.

De Vere, Heron's Reach, B'pool. Good set up, and although B'pool can be a bit tacky it can be a good laugh.

Southport/Nth Liverpool. Loads of very good courses and L'pool or Southport is a good night out. Known as Britain's Golf Coast.

De Vere, Staverton Park, Daventry. Course and hotel is decent, and cheap. The on-site bars are full of sweaty golfers but its a short taxi ride in to Daventry - still a bit quiet.

After that, going south, I'm not that familiar tbh.

Thanks for recommending Staverton. Is it not much good for the evening onsite then?

I'm really looking for all the evening stuff to be on site. Five Lakes was fantastic in this respect, as it has hen do's etc..

Just made an enquiry about Old Thorns Manor which looks pretty good!

St Andrews.
Have a look at drumoig hotel which is outside st Andrews and has it's own golf course. They have regular groups there so take bookings for a party your size. At night you can head into st a's or over to dundee for a night out.

Staverton isn't good for on-site entertainment.

The Belfry has its own nightclub, which can be pretty full and bouncing.

Personally, I'd go somewhere where the entertainment is off site. Then you have a choice if something is poor. If you go somewhere that is miles from anywhere, and its dead, you're stuffed.

Depending on how much you want to spend, Vilamoura in Portugal. Flights are cheap, as are the hotels. Weather is usually excellent, and the pubs and clubs around the marina are all right next door to each other.
