Hey everyone,
Noticed this morning on my way in to work that the neutral light wouldn't switch off... I put her into first, back to neutral. switched off. Back on, into first - light still on. I rode it to work anyway and it went off after a few minutes of riding then came back on when I stopped at lights. I did notice that the "N" light did seem dim when it was actually in gear and then lit up properly when it was a true neutral. Had the same on my way home this evening, A dim "N" light all the way home. The gears feel fine, It's not difficult to get in or out of neutral. The other electrics seem fine, lights, indicators all fine. Any ideas? Only had the bike for a couple of weeks, not sure where the switch/wire is on these bikes, I presume (hope) its just a loose connection or dirty or something... Bike is a '99 curvey SV650s Many thanks ![]() *EDIT* just realised this should have been put in the other forum for SV's (Sorry admin) Last edited by hounddf2; 04-05-13 at 07:30 PM. Lift the tank up and find the four pin connector inside a rubber boot, on the left side of the frame adjacent to the front ignition coil, it has a blue* wire in it - this is the neutral switch wire.
Switch the ignition on, turn the engine stop switch off, put the bike in first gear and disconnect the connector, does the light go out? - If yes, then the fault lies either in the switch itself or the wiring from the four pin plug down to it. - If no, then the fault lies in the line from that plug to the starter lockout relay, the relay itself or onwards to the light in the instruments. If it's a wiring fault, then you'll be looking for insulation damage allowing the wire to touch a frame or engine surface, or possibly a negative wire, and connect through there to negative the bulb - the light is negative switched, the positive connection is always on, and the negative side is connected to the engine cases, (and thus the battery negative), when the bike is in neutral. Happy hunting! *Possibly blue with a black tracer - I can't remember exactly.
