OMO - my insurance is due for renewal at the start of jan.
so of you probably know at the start of the year I had an incident where a pedestrian walked out in front of me and unfortunately for us both caused an accident. Now the claim is still going through proceedings. How do I go about getting insurance? do I have 0 NCB? Devitt sent me a letter saying they are unable to renew my insurance? I guess in most cases with a pedestrians vehicle always going to lose as they have no insurance. (I had 2 years was going to be 3 but accident) Do I just start saving up my NCB again from scratch? |

If you claim, regardless of who's at fault it will affect NCD its not a No Blames Discount.
If its not a protected NCD then they will mostly start you of from nothing. quote kiggles "Devitt sent me a letter saying they are unable to renew my insurance? " That's pants as its always a pain to get any good quotes whilst you have a claim in presses ![]()

Different insurers have different policies, but you don't automatically lose all your years of unprotected NCD if you make a claim
My insurer deducts two years for one claim, three for two claims and all years if three claims are made in during the policy You may have different rules, but they should be outlined in the policy documents you received.. Regarding the accident, you should proceed now as if you have made a claim on the policy, once the dust settles you can claim increased premiums back from the third party if they are deemed to be at fault...

If a claim is pending your fault or not at renewal the price is inflated greatly. The insurers will offer a refund on the difference based on a successful non fault victory, but how much they lower the price by is at their discretion |

What NCD you retain is up to your insurance underwriter and broker.
I retained one year NCD with the ongoing claim I've got, but that made no odds at renewal as the 'claim in progress' marker on the MIB database overrules that

I'm not convinced it solves that much as you still have to declare the accident.

Sarah had a knock for knock last year.
To renew the same policy with her protected ncd was £530!!, So i insured it with her named and declared claim £350 .

You're not really protecting anything but an imaginary number, any insurance company could weight a premium when you declare your accident to them so I never have...
