Default Sv 650s 2001 Speedo problem

Hi all
I`m new to the forums just got myself a standard sv 650 s 2001 model.

Now my problem is the speedo I have looked around in forums but only came up with others having there speedo reading double the actual speed there doing.
My problem is mine is reading less than the actual speed I`m doing, I can be doing say 50 mph but the speedo will say I`m doing about 30 mph.
I have changed the rota with this one SUZUKI SV650 1999-2004 VL800 K1-K5 SPEEDO ROTOR 34983-21E00 but it is still doing the same .

Any help would be great and thanks in advance.

Vince

Hi Vince

It sounds like the actual sensors gone, not the rotor. If you have got the haynes manual, it details how to do the test. I haven't got the info to hand, but I can dig it you tonight is you need it

Hi Andrew

Thanks for your reply. Just back from having another look at the wiring under the tank where it plugs in and ive noticed there is a small black square type thing in between the wiring plugs not sure what it is but the wires don't seem that good on it, any idea what this thing is ?

Thanks

Vince

Odd.
It should be straight into a clear OEM connector with nothing in between IIRC

Hi Andrew

What I mean is the the actual plug the sensor goes into on the wiring harness under the fuel tank, instead of it connecting straight to the wiring harness there is some sort of black square thing in between with plugs on it, ill try and take a pic of it

Odd! Looks like a speedo healer or similar. Try removing the black box and putting it back to standard

The best test to check if its okay is select 4th and the speedo should roughly climb 10mph for every 1,000 rpm or use a Sat nav if you can

Just an update I took that part off and put the speedo cable plug socket straight to the main loom and its worked , so I have no idea what that black thing was doing on there in the first place lol.
Anyways big thanks to you Andrew your a star
