Default Modern world?

Is this what we have come to, we are sat on the sofa with pre-recorded TV on DJ has a laptop and a tablet on the go (no idea what he is doing, but it doesn't look , very exciting), I have netbook and tablet on the go trying to look for new e-books to buy. I remember when Saturday night used to be about going out clubbing and doing things that you could only vaguely remember the next morning, I suppose this is what nearly 16 years of marriage and two kids does to you.

I used to spend my weekends deaf, hungover and smelling of sleeping on floors because as a metal fan I used to go to gigs or clubs and get wasted. I once drank so much vodka I could not speak and that was before I went out. Things got so bad that by the time I was thirty my Father was concerned that I was developing a drink problem!

These days, being sat at home with the wife, often playing on the Chromebook while the cat sleeps on my lap makes a Saturday night. It has nothing to do with marriage or kids it is just that we have done all of that stuff. It does not stop me heading out every now and again and enjoying another black or death metal gig though.

I once went to a club with some friends and there were so many of us we filled a Ford cortina to the roof, by laying on each other in the back seat. I miss my twenties, I was young with the potential for beauty and yet I wasted so many years by being sick at parties, not being brave enough to come out of the closet and not going travelling far enough.

Like so many before me, I wish for the youth I had to be with the wisdom I have. The forty year old me could do so much more with a twenty year old body!

welcome to the most connected non interacting time in history, you can chat to people at any moment from anywhere in the world but don't even pass more than 3 syllables to the people sitting 3 feet from you,
oh the internet where the standard reply is lol and sentences are little more than 110 badly spelt characters normally about complete and utter inane ****e that no one actually cares or wants to know about, but hey its ok cos here is a pic of what im having for dinner tonight surely everyone is interested in that

no wonder the suicide rate is growing

I said enough was enough when my wife called through from the kitchen for me to e-mail our daughter that dinner was ready, and she was only upstairs in her bedroom...!

Default Modern world?

I've just had this exact conversation with the other half. Why do people need to be so reliant on digital media items these days. I love just sitting read a magazine or an actual book n listening to music. I must be getting old as well! Guess it happens to us all
