Default Whining noise - Pointy.

Hi guys, in the last few days I've noticed a peculiar whining noise from my K5. It happens around 60mph when the engine is under a slight load. Sounds a bit like a whistle, and it comes and goes instantly, ie it doesn't like slowly build up, it's either there or it isn't. It's deffo not my helmet either, could it be the chain? or could it be a wheel bearing?
Many thanks!

This is a bit of a worry, because I'm in the middle of trying to sell it atm, and unless I can source the cause of the noise it could put the spanner in the works so to speak :0(

Not the chain guard rubbing on the chain slightly? Had that when I picked mine up last week, only on the power - went when I let off.

I'm no expert, but mine did this a few weeks back, all ok got to about 60 and it didn't half whistle.

After taping up all the vents in my helmet I ruled that out too!

My next thought was the brakes, after a bit of peeing around, it turned out that somehow one of the rotors on the front wheel had taken a little knock.

With the bike on my abba stand, I prised open the pads and spun the wheel, no touching, applied the brake just abit etc until it touched in one place.

Used a wooded mallet handle and gave it a sharp tap.

Gave it a ride, whistle gone, at any speed.

Might be worth a try?

Thanks for your suggestions, I'm going to have a proper look over the bike at the weekend. I tried lubing up the chain good and proper and taking it for a blast down the motorway last night to see if i should shake it off. The noise is still there, quite audible even on the motorway with windblast etc. Seems to be only in between 60-72 mph, and it is a constant pitch, not related to engine speed.

I've tried adjusting the chain to see if that cured the noise, but to no avail. I've discovered that it doesn't make any difference what gear I'm in, the noise still occurs. I've read that the speedometer sensor can be noisy if it needs greasing, and the bike is due an oil change too, so I'll see if that fixes it.
