Default Anyone recommend a fly screen ?

I have to go up to Sheffield next weekend, and the thought of hanging on to the bars for 200 miles each way doesn't turn me on, the bike being one of the rarer nakeds (apparently the S model outsells the naked by 10 to 1 )

I've seen a few naked bike with flyscreens, so . . . any recommendations

Do they affect the handling/steering

Do they give any decent protection from the wind

Which one is worth getting

. . . or am I just being a tart

ps. I promise I'll remove it when I get home

Yes, we've had this conversation before, haven't we

I was hoping for a few comments from the more liberal members of our community

I fitted one to my '99 bike - A National Cycles summat from M&P. It was quite tall. However, I never got a satisfactory positioning for it. The turbulence that came over the top was either buffeting my shoulders or my helmet. The first was very off-putting, the second bloody noisy. It's no longer on the bike. I can't see the smaller headlight screens being anything other than cosmetic. But what do I know?

Rather than using the motorway all the way, why don't you allow a couple of hours longer, plot a nice route and do some more interesting A-road hacking? Or take the train, or a coach. Jeez, did I really say that?

I've kind of explored these options

I'll be going up Friday evening, probably after spending most of the evening quaffing expensive coffee in Soho with the rest of the Massive, so it'll be dark . . . and I'll be coming back Sunday evening . . . so it'll be dark

The wife & kids are going up in the motor and staying the week at her mums (it's half-term), I could go one-way, but I have to get back for work on Monday. Train is rediculously expensive as well as slow. National Express is £9 one way, and takes about the same time as the train !, but it's still a bl**dy coach

I idly thought that if I stuck to the A1 it wouldn't be too bad - get a few roundabouts to break up the monotony, etc. I guess there are a few 24hr service stations for a p** and coffee, although I haven't been up the A1 for years . . .

Anything rather than public transport

That is one fugly piece of plastic and I fail to see how it (or any of similar dimensions) can be anything but cosmetic.

Mr Toad, i was trying to find a link to the Hein gericke screen i've got on my bike.
But their website confounds my mind

Great screen, i'm 6ft and the wind is over my shoulders most of the time and only a duck gets my head out of it too.

The mounting brackets need a tiny bit of manipulation to not scratch the inside but at 39.99 it was very good value imo.
