Default moving on...

Ok I've had my SV (K4) for about 6 months and I love it. This is more of a hypothetical question; anyway. Scanning through biketrader as you do on a snowy afternoon(last weekend) I was looking at gixxers and the like, my friends were saying(varying bike exp) those machines are too dangerous and harder to "control" etc. What I'm asking is what specifically is more dangerous with a supersports ? if any..... ) Comments from people who have made a move to supersports at a stage especially appreciated.

Nothing I have rode GSRX600's and 1000's and the sv650 they are all dangerous it all depends on self control. If you have to squeeze everything out of bike then yes faster bike are more dangerous but then again if you come off at 5mph or 180mph it still hurts and final result can be the same.

i came straight from a GS125cc (4bph machine)
to a CBR6 (109 bhp machine)

i shouldnt have done it imho, if i didnt have my head screwed on - it could have been bad news.

but i was pretty sensible with it , stayed well within my limits and slowly learned new things.

but just under a year with it now . . . id say its still a bit too powerful for me.

Lee, great post.... I concur totally. Your right wrist goes forwards as well as backwards..... Generally, brakes, suspension, power and handling are all better on a supersport 600.

One thing to bear in mind.... If you get a S/S 600 beware of the voices... They will get you, and self control is mandatory and a pre-requisite requirement....

Seriously...

Stand a Honda 50, a GSXR1000 and a Hayabusa in a car park and none of them are any more 'dangerous' than the other.

It's only when you introduce homo-sapien that things change, whatever you get learn to ride it properly and there won't be any probs.

Except, as Steve says, the never ending urge to max the f**ker out
I wondered where the REAL Lee had gone. Your first post was concise and well reasoned. Didn't think it was you who wrote it.

Comes back with avengence on this one

thanks for the replies people; its mostly what I was guessing however being a relative noob to big bikes I am really just curious to hear of peoples real life stories rather than the biased stuff we seem to read everywhere! For the short term I'll be keeping the SV as I'm 25, live in greater london and have no garage. Food for thought none the less

Well i moved from a SVs to a CB1300 (ok, not a sports bike i know). A pal of mine said i was mad to go for such a big bike but truth be told i find it as easy to ride as the SV - huge amounts of torque makes for a relaxed journey.

Just watch out for the massive 'rush' of power you get from an IL4 at higher revs - at just about the same time youre looking to change gear on the SV - the turn of speed is absolutely shocking ('ly great ).
