Greetings all.
Popped into my local dealer today to get a front tyre for my baby and they had a gorgeous new 1000S in red with lowers. Its a K4 (K5 not available yet they say) and they want £6000 for it, BUT, they will give me £3000 for my yellow SK1 in part ex. My bike has about 9500 miles on it, pretty good condition, with Suzuki lowers fitted, oh, and a new front tyre! Does anyone have any thoughts? Is this a good deal? Ta Steve |

£3000 isn't bad I got £2800 for my K3 with 6690 miles on it. So if the book price for your bike would be £2000 part ex your really only paying £5000 for the 1000.

6k is high for a SV1000s, even 2 years ago when I bought mine, I got it for about £5.5k
remember the K5 has about 10 more BHP so I'd suggest not buying the K4 until you try the K5 and see how much they sell for. as soon as the K5 is out NOONE is going to be buying the slower K4, and the prices will fall . |

quick trawl thru mcn classifieds suggests:
double motorcycles Sv1000 k3 for £3999 pre reg, but sk3 with alarm ready for 05 reg is £4999. George White sugestion £4?99 for a sv1000sk4. Mariott Sv1000s pre reg £5199 inc lowers or £4899 w/o. Onyerbike sv1000 k3 £3999. on a54 or 04 plate. Cupar S1000sk4 with lowers £5495. Some bigger dealers like Taz and DK not even listing Sv1000 at all. Does sound like your dealers offering you 1k more than your's is worth, but making it up at the other end. Whats the age of yours? |

Thanks for the thoughts guys.
Juju - My bike will be 4 years old in June. I think the dealer is probably asking about £500 too much for the thou, but as you say, they seem to be offering me about £1000 more than mine is actually worth. This bike is brand new in the showroom, not pre-registered and has the Suzuki lowers already fitted. AlanSv - I know that the K5 will have a bit more grunt when it comes out, but I'm not sure when that will be! The dealer has no idea of dates (so they claim). If the K5 has black wheels (dealer again has no official details on colours, only what's on the website), then I would rather have a K4 as I didn't like the look of the new 650's they had in the showroom. Point taken about losing value, but I figure that's gonna happen sooner or later whatever I get. DrBob - my thoughts exactly! chris SVK3 - I have started doing a 25 mile (each way) commute and need something that's not too extreme and will be reliable. I used my SV through the winter and it performed faultlessly. Anything more extreme, or naked, or with more than 2 cylinders is out! Viney - thanks, that's kinda what I thought it would be. I am not necessarily after the deal of the decade, I just don't want to pay over the odds. The dealer is local and has looked after me. No doubt I could find cheaper elsewhere, but probably at the opposite end of the country! I think I need to test ride a thou and then try a bit of haggling. I was quite taken by the colour, hadn't seen a red one before. |

All I can say is you'll never get a better price for that K1... But that still wouldn't tempt me to buy a thou for £6000, or anywhere near it. When Cupars had the preregged K3s for £4300, that was a deal though

I'd tell them what you've found out and see if they'll sweeten the deal a bit more. Even if it's full tank in the bike make sure you tell them that you know you can get the thou cheaper elsewhere, then the PX price won't be an issue. Don't mention that you don't want to travel.
Most of a good negotiation is saying nothing or very little. Ask about values when the more powerful K5 arrives. |
