I went from Algeciras to Tangiers about 2 hours on ferry. There are ferries from Marseille and Valencia I believe. Some of the roads are quite badly potholed, and the driving standards are typically African. |

This is something I'm looking into at the moment.
The crossing from Alegiciras to Cueta takes 45 mins and is about €40. (£28 ) I was then looking to ride across north africa to Tunis and get a ferry to Sicily (€170) The problem I am now looking into is where to stay in Africa. Ideally I want to camp but that isn't looking too likely and I aren't sure how safe it would be either. |

I hate to say it but if you registed on www.ukgser.com someone will definitely be able to advise you.
Ive been thinking of a similar trip, basically a pseudo-circumnavigation of the med. From what I can gather and from my own experience of non-motorcycle travel in Morocoo only is that it is in fact fairly safe and in any case many hotels would have a secure part or let you park the bike in the lobby etc at night. If camping I was basically going to make sure I had all the valuables in the tent and at night actually use a wire between bike and tent poles to deter/detect any 'disturbance' certainly any crime is really only likely to be opportunist. From what I know about Morocco its a bit hassley up north and around the coast but much less so across the Atlas. That doesnt help for this trip tho. Customs with a bike is meant to be fine, although the tip seems to be just to accept to part with a few euros or dollars to one of the 'helpers' who will get your papers stamped for you ![]() But as I say youll get some info on ukgser or theres the horizons unlimited site but personally I find that a bit big and confusing although its the bible site for travellers. I'll come with you! Oh and I wasnt on a bike but roads seemed fine in Morrocco, driving a little poor thats the main thing. I was in a minibus and the roads were fine all the way to the edge of the Sahara-ish. Along the coast i would imagine they will be fine although busier. having said that you'll be better on a traillie than an SV probably, although once you do hit an unexpected pothole it would be rather academic anyway! |

Thanks Rich
my first idea was to go round the Med/Europe visiting as many countries as possibe. something along the lines of 1 England 2 Holland 3 Belgium 4 Luxembourg 5 france 6 Switzerland 7 Italy 8 Monaco 9 Andorra 10 Spain 11 Morocco 12 Algeria 13 Tunisia 14 Libya 15 Egypt 16 Isreal 17 Jordan 18 Syria 19 Lebanon 20 Turkey 21 Greece 22 Bulgaria 23 former Yugoslav countries 24 Romania 25 Hungary 26 Slovakia 27 Austria 28 Czech Republic 29 Poland 30 Germany 31 Denmark 32 Sweden 33 Norway 34 Scotland Decided this was probably a bit ambitious and maybe cutting off and coming back through italy from tunisia or going Tunisa --> Italy --> Croatia (ferries) and missing the middle east would be easier than trying the Middle east. Nothing definite planned just want to do an epic motorbike journey before I'm too old/ have too many responsibilities (not long to go as I'm 31!) and if you wanted to come along you would be more than welcome. |

I'm hoping to plan a trip similar to yours when I return from travelling (not on a bike, sadly).
Maybe we'll cross paths one day. |

My plan A is give or take a few #30 back to #20 this summer.
But the Morrocco thing is tempting. AFAIK its all doable but Im not certain about Algeria and for some of these you may need that carnet thing and also buy 3rd party insurance on the border. On advrider.com there's a mega thread called 'striking viking bumming the world' and its got a lot of gems in there, but its like reading a book. Surprisingly possibly I think Syria is meant to be easier than Egypt. The Egypt Israel border crossing is meant to be a toughie, tho. What a trip it would be tho! |
