Default not enough gas or too much? bad spark plugg?

Hi Everyone,
started last night comming home from work, strange thing happened.
my 02 SV hold idle great not an issue

When I push the throatle just a little (nothing over 5000 rpm) then the bike behave fine. if I go over it, it stops pulling. Kinda like if there was no more gas to come or not enough air, .... I put down the throttle and it start working again, ....

Any ideas ?

Sounds like too much fuel, have you checked the choke cable, as when I had a sticky choke cable it made the bike really slow, dont know if this is correct on the SV as I had a GS.
(Bit like when ya have the chooke cable on for too long in the morning,)

Default updates

choke cable is fine.

ok so tonight I changed the spark plug which was needed anyway.
I also added some carb cleaner in the gas.
fired it up as usual.
idle is better and you can feel the new plugs are there and helped big time.

HOWEVER the problem is still there.
so I am on 2nd or 3rd, crank the gas and everything is fine till 5-6000 rpm then bwaaaaaaaa like there is no more gas comming in the carb.

I slow down, let the throttle go and there again the bike goes then bwaaaaaaaa

ok so next test (since I had to drive 20 miles to get the carb cleaner in the system)
I am on the highway, 5 or 6th gear, "barely" the throtle on to hold the speed and if I go over 55-60 mp then here again bwaaaaaaaa no gas comming in, ......
let it go, fine, ...
I tried to push it a little to see if it would pick up but nop.

Next step , I stopped and opened the gas lit on the tank in case it was a vacum issue. then again on the highway, same deal, ... bwaaaaaaaa

I know this gona sounds weird but it sounds to me like the issue that that friend of mine had in college, his car would go fine for a while and then suddenly the car would jirk like there is no more gas.
he'd leave the car on the hightway, on the side, call me, we'd get there and the car would start right up. do 10 miles then bwaaa same thing no gas. stop 20 minutes and it would start right up.
it ended up being someone that put "pease" in his gas tank. it would pack up at the filter when the gas was sucked in and clog the gas. you stop, it goes back and flot on in the gas, ...

So anyway, what do you guys think?
where is the gas filter ? is it in the tank at the connection?
How do you clean that? suck the gas off the tank and then unscrew ? is there a better way to purge te tank ?

Sounds to me like a main jet problem... Will it pull over 5000 in any gear?

Dirty air-filter would cause this. What's the mileage?

Default 5000, 6000 max in any gear

in any gear I can't pull over 5000 -6000 rpm.

what can I do about the main jet ?
I did put some fuel cleaner/ carb cleaner in the gas, ...

drove 20 miles that didn't help.

are there multiple jets and they are used at different RPMs ?

Default I changed the spark plugs and air filter last night

I changed the spark plugs and air filter last night and that didn't fix it.

They were from when I bought the bike in 02 and had 10.000km on it.
the spark definetely helped the idle....

bike idle fine and really takes off the line as long as not over 5000 rpm.
over it, it tryes to stall like no more gas is getting to the carb

Sounds like fuel starvation to me.

Check:

Vacuum line, if there's a leak the tap won't open fully.
Hoses and pump lines.
If all else fails, check the filters, one in the tank, one on top of each float needle, can't remember if there's a filter gauze in the pump, if there is chck that too.

Yup, there's pilot jet, needles and main jet, all of which affect different parts. The main jets have their main effect above 5000, which is why I'd suspect that one of those may be blocked. But I seem to be the only one

What mileage have you done since. Has it ever had a new air-filter fitted?

If you know how to prob the tank up take the air filter out and see if it rev's.
