Default Paddock stand a 1 man job?

Just had to take the rear wheel off to get a new tyre fitted and obviously if youre lubing the chain, etc its handy to have a rear paddock stand.

Anyone got any handy tips for getting it on there by myself. Hate having to ask my dad, mate or random passerby to hold the bike upright while i get it up....on the stand

Hold it by the grab handle and slip the stand under the 'arm, then just push down on the lever with your foot while still steadying the bike.
I do it from the exhaust side, because I trust the sidestand, some people do it from the other side.

Are you using hooks or cups? I found cups easier but either way, put the stand under the ledt side of the swingarm or on the cotton reel, and lever the bike up with the stand gradually and hold steady. Make sure your cups/hooks are lined up before lifting the bike at all. I always put my left arm across the back of the bike, incase it is unstead so I can manipulate it back to the stand if necessary.

Put it in gear, it won't roll away from you as you put it down again.

Putting the bike on a paddock stand is easily a one man* job. Just remember the bike is only heavy if it's starting to fall over, when it's balanced upright there''s little effort ar adjustment required to keep it that way.

I tend to put the bike on the stand when it's next to the garage wall so that if it falls one way the wall will stop it and if it falls the other the side stand should stop it.

good wee tip I got from Northwind (I know, taking his advice is risky - just kidding!).

before you line up the paddock stand, place a block of wood or half brick under the side-stand, the bike will be almost vertical. then line up the cups. from the exhaust side I use left hand on saddle, right hand on the tailpiece (above the lights where it says suzuki) and then just gently push the bike forward and press down hard on the stand with your foot. If you're holding onto the right side of the saddle you should be able to stop it going over if the cups move, although I've never had a problem.

Cheers guys, will try it tonight

Only problem I can see with both the SV and the Ninja is that theres nothing to hold onto, took the grab handle off the SV

But i'll just put my faith in the side stand to catch it if it all goes tits up, both bikes weigh hardly anything so no problem there. I'll prob just snap an indicator or two off trying to grab hold of something!

My SV has no grab rail, I pop the seat cowl off and hold it with the loop bracket.
