Default Removing Burnt on black stuff from the Exhaust.

Although the SV is washed allot more than any of my previous bikes I still don't give it a proper wash often enough (it's gets hosed down after most rides but only gets a proper wash every other week.....or so). But when I do wash it I can never get the burnt on crap off my exhaust and I'm worried about marking it (more than it already is).

What's the best thing to remove this without causing damage?

Never tried it myself on the bike but Bartenders Friend mixed into a paste might work. Does a good job on our oven shelves.

If the can is stainless steel, then Autosol on a piece of cloth using your fingertip in a circular motion. This make take some time and patience and you'll also have to do the whole can otherwise you'll end up with bright spots.

My advice for the future is as soon as you see a little tar mark, then get rid of it there and then as it makes the whole job of keeping your bike spangly so much easier .

If it's burnt on stuff, then I'd suggest not cooking bacon on there for breakfast.

Try fying eggs, there's a definate knack to it and you have to put them in a 'sub' rather than a round roll - but they clean off alot easier.

If it is just tar etc then a little parafin on a rag (when the bike is colled down) works a treat.
Give it a good rinse off afterwards too.

Personally, if I have burnt on stuff to deal with I take the bike out for a hard ride to get it cooking, then get a heatproof glove and some rough cloths and just rub it off. If it melted on it'll melt off. You can't always get it all like that but you can get rid of most of it.
