Default replace rear shock before fork upgrades?

I got a good deal on a 636 shock, but I can't afford to do the fork upgrades yet. Should I wait to put the shock on until I can do both at the same time, or should I just put it on and get to the forks when I can get to them?

While searching I found a lot of guys doing the forks without the shock, but none doing the shock without the forks.

Most people would recommmend upgrading the front before the rear but if you've got the shock already I would just go and do that for now.

I agree, get the front sorted first.

at least change the fork oil to 15w with a 140mm air gap with the springs out and the forks compressed. better than nothing

I would argue that because the K2,3,4 & 5 have preload adjustable front suspension, this is not so important as the pre K1's.... But desirable nonetheless.

Why change the rear shock, Mine still works great after nearly 5 years.
The forks need work straight away

A lot of people aren't impressed with the SV's shock damping. A change to a different shock can improve this and also allow more adjustability.

If you don't have a problem with the shock then it's one less upgrade
For a big lad like me it's going to be changed.

You're always helpful Graham and certainly have a good store of technical knowledge, but there really are times when you worry me.

Might just be me, but I allways change the things that I have the biggest problem with first. Sure the forks on my bike dive on the brakes like a hollywood porn starlet on the job, but I can ride around that for the time being. It's my wallowy rear shock that causes me the most probs, so I shall be changing that first.

It's all fair and well changing what people say to change, but there may be more merit in changing things to improve your own bigger problmes first, before upgrading just for improvements sake.

That's my tuppence worth. I'll be doing the shock first.........but it's telling that I will also be sorting the front out as soon as I have the money.

Dan.
