Qs for those with fully faired pointy SV650s'

Generally official suzuki fairing lowers, but I'd be interested to hear answers from those with third party lowers (please specify which ones you have)

1. Can you fit fairing lowers to a bike with 3rd party radiator covers (e.g. the hamicad ones). It looks like you should be able to, but having never seen a bike with both, thought it'd be best to ask.

2. How quickly/easily can you fit/remove the fairings (for servicing etc.)?

3. If you declared them to your insurer (3PFT), roughly how much did it boost your premium by?

4. Any idea if the latest R&G crash bungs require you to cut the fairing to fit them, like the old ones did?

3. It shouldn't raise your premiums, it didn't to mine (3PFT)

4. The most effective crash bungs are the ones that use the main engine bolt, which will mean cutting away a bit of the fairing.

1. Heard of the possibility of this causing overheating problems. Not sure anyone's ever tested this though. No idea if they physically fit.

4. There are different versions for faired and unfaired, so presumably it doesn't mean cutting.

R & G now do a new version of bungs that don't need the lowers cutting!!!

I have fitted Poly 26 fairing lowers to mine.

1. Looks it's possible, the lowers bolt to the radiator but they're definitely flexible enough to accommodate a radiator cover. Mine runs about 10% hotter in the city with the fairings, I have no idea what it would be like with a radiator cover

2. Putting them on is a bit fiddly, probably about 15 minutes. Taking them off about 5.

3. No idea.

4. I don't see any way you could fit any crash bungs to the bike without cutting the lowers.

4. Suzuki ones complement the style and no cutting is required. They aint bad either.. As for R&G, if they fit on the main bolt then it should be ok, but i havent researched it.

5. Do it anyway, it looks great!

Mine did run a few degrees higher than the last, but fom 88 to 91 aint a whole lot of difference..

1. The Hamicad radiator cover replaces the existing side covers so it shouldn't be a problem, I haven't bothered trying mine yet as my rad is bent.

2. Spiderman and myself did it in Soho fairly quickly and easily, you undo a bolt on to the rad and just below the rearsets and then you have some grommets holding the fairings together at the point just behind the front wheel which you just push out from the inside.

3. I bought my SV new with the fairings so when asked for the value I told them how much I paid for it, didn't declare it as a mod as it was an optional extra in my opinion.

4. Yes the latest R&Gs do fit, just make sure you order the right ones - see here.

If you saw what they did to my bike you really wouldn't say that. They caused more damage in my off than had I not had them. It's not the crash bung itself that is to blame though, it's the mounts that are just so wrong. On my 10mph off the mount bent back in to the frame and as the crash bung went with it, the lower fairing cracked where the crash bung goes through it as they were being pulled by the crash bung. This also bent the rad as it was pulled back by the fairing, the bolt holding the fairing to the rad actually gave way in the end and caused further damage to the fairing as well. What they would do in any 20mph+ off is not worth thinking about.
