Default Loobman user?

Hi All SVers

Anyone fitted a Loobman? I know Jonboy has one ... Noticed yesterday a line on my rear (obviously) tyre where oil has flung onto. I would have to lean her over to quite an extreme angle ( Oo-er Missus) before it would make contact with tarmac, but it's just a little disconcerting to know there is some oil on the rear tyre (on the tyre wall no prob, but there is a 1-1.5 cm strip on the edge of the tyre footprint itself on the chain side).

Anybody any views on this so I can ride less worringly?

Cheers

Tony

PS It's all a bit congealed and gunky so not like slippy ready poured oil (He says trying to further convince himself that this is NOT a problem )

I've had mine on for about 2 months now...

I'm using what's left of some scottoiler stuff before I start on engine oil.... yes it does get on the back tyre, though only a little as I can't get more than about 2 cm worth of fluid from a squeeze, before each 40 mile journey to and from work... plus it washes of pretty fast in the rain or when cleaning the bike. I've not noticed any loss of traction, but then I have the original Dunlop D220s which have such rubbish grip it's hard to tell sometimes...

Doensides on the loobman are that the bottle fell out of the cradle pretty quickly and had to be zip-tied into place with a lot of ties and the dual-injector has lost both the bits that touch the sprocket. Somehow it still seems ot dump oil on the chain and the chain looks very clean and well-lubed for now. When it stops working completely I'll rip it off and probably buy a scottoiler.... that's the other thing, the loobman looks kind of hideous being outside and all, plus I sometimes forget to squeeze the bottle before setting off... I'm hoping it will last a few more months though, and for £16 it's not been bad...

for me, the bit the sits on the sprocket has moved off and no just dangles slightly above the chain.

After a squeeze and a run i notice my back wheel is black from fling

bleedin annoying to the point i might give up with it

I've got a scottoiler and regularly get fling on the back wheel. From the looks of it, it doesn't appear to be on the surface of the tyre (only a bit on the wall) and if it is, I've not noticed a loss of traction.

Also, after going out in the rain, the bike drips black oil off the chain/rear shock (in spite of having a hugger) onto the garage floor. I'm still glad I've got one though.

I've just fitted one this weekend I put a bit of effort in, and managed to mount the 'devlivery head' (aka ty-raps ) behind the swing arm. I also formed the wire so that is behind the swing arm too. All you can see are the two ty-raps (Mr. Loobman must have shares in 'em). When I get a chance I will post some pics.

I mounted the bottle under the subframe, under the triangle plastic bit. It is vulnerable to a bit of fling... but I don't think it looks too bad.

It's early days for me, but I would say I have the opposite problem... as in not as much oil is delivered as I would have expected. Even though I can't resist giving it a squeeze to make sure it's working (oo-er missus). I don't think the tyre looks any worse than with my old spray lube.

The chain does look good though, and I am now deffo a convert to (semi) automatic chain oilers. I am sure I would have a Scotoiler if I had a new bike.

I would be interested to know where/how you guys have fitted the bits.

It will be intersting to see how long it lasts

Fitted mine onto rear pillion peg mount (as per Loobman website pic ). I agree that the chain does look nice and shiny, so it is obviously getting loobed

As you say, I forgot that I used to get some fling anyway. Looks worse when it's been raining, i.e. you can see a band. I do a mainly motorway commute anyway so I ain't exactly riding on the edge (literally) of the tyres.

Cheers

Tony

Had mine for just over 7000 miles, Yes I do get the odd drip onto the tyre but its never been a problem, infact I dont even think about it anymore, the only down side as with all oilers is the mess its makes of the rim

I've stuck the bottle up by my knee so I can still reach it while on the bike...

god it looks ugly... but the chain looks as good as new, although it was rust-covered and minging when I got the bike - dealer degreases the bikes to keep the floor clean. I'd expect it (and the sprockets) to last for ages, even with winter riding.

Incidentally, since having the loobman (and before that a scottoiler) I have never cleaned my chains, in several 1000 miles - they simply don't seem to need it - the regular flow seems to wash off any junk, and ordinary bike washing seems to remove any build-up around the sprockets, etc.

I put a little bikt of spray lube on after washing the bike, but only cos it's usually sitting there lube-less for the whole weekend after I clean it, and I don't want it to start rusting then...
