Default Horn Upgrade

Just trying to upgrade my horn to one of the curley air horn types.

The one i'm installing only has 1 spade type connector opposed to the 2 on the original, therefore I'm using a circular connector around the thread where it's held on.

Hor works fine until I fasten it to the bike, then it sounds constantly????

Any ideas??, it's doing my head in

Cheers alll......

As soon as the thread touches the mounting bracket (or any other part of the bike) it causes the horn to sound constantly. When not touching the bike works fine???

Any ideas

THANKS

From what I can remember when replacing my horn the SV's horn is 'earth activated' and you have to connect the relay up slightly different - this could be your problem.

If you already know this then I'm sorry but I can't help, if you didn't know this and require a diagram let me know and I'll try and dig my instructions out.

Derbybiker's right - there's 12V to the horn all the time the ignition's on and the horn switch completes the circuit on the earth side. To me you've two options:

1) Mount the horn on a piece of strong plastic to isolate the horn from the chassis, then put your wire from the horn mounting screw to the other spade connector on the SV's wiring (sounds like you're already doing that). That way the circuit is only complete via the horn button as before.

2) If they'll have the horn back, swap it for one with a positive and negative teminal, which works the same as the standard horn.

Cheers and good luck Keith
