Default Datatool DiGi Digital Gear Indicator...

Hey,

I am quite interested in buying a gear indicator for my 2003 SV650S. I rode a friends bike that had it and it made the ride alittle more enjoyable. I can figure it out without one, but I found having it there was just a nice feature.

I have only really heard of one called the Datatool DiGi Digital Gear Indicator?. I also saw the DIY Gear Indicator on here before. I think the Datatool is the way to go for me.

Does anyone on the site have experience with this indicator on their SV or another bike? Or know anything about it? Can someone direct me to a place where I could pick one up? More importantly, before I buy I should understand what I am getting myself into. How hard is it to install? TO my understanding there is much wiring involved...? Fill me in guys. Thanks alot!

Mitch

I was gonna go down this route, til someone on here fitted one & he lovingly named it 'the random number generator' Then I though, I'll keep my £60+ in the bank for another day...

Yup, even when set up, it takes a second or two to establish which gear you're in etc... I'm sure you'll get a responce from the owner soon

Thanks for your help Cloggsy. Do you know of any other makes of universial gear indicators? I will have to wait till morning to read the responses.

Good night/morning,

Mitch

I had an acumen digital gear indicator fitted to my old bike and it seemed to work fine. I'm just about to fit one to my R6 as soon as this rain lets up.

I found that while it does take a second to update I'm not really bothered which gear I'm in until it's time to change down to negotiate a corner/junction etc. A quick glance before changing down will tell you how many times to click down. Also it's handy when looking for that non-existant 7th gear.

I have a pre wired loom that just plugs in so no messed up solder joints - it cost a little more but saves so much hassle!!

All bought from Ebay!!

I'd say get one, I find them useful. There are those that don't like them (my wife included, she's never used one either!) but at the end of the day it's each to their own!

My wifes bike came with the Acumen Digi gear indicator with the funky blue LED display, she thinks it's really good but probably does'nt pay much attention to it when riding. Just another gizmo really but quite trick

did somebody call - hop hop

yes I have (or should that be had, as the bike is now a write off ) an Acumen Digital Gear Indicator - very similar to the datatool
I chickened out & got the dealer to fit it, but it comes with full instructions so shouldn't be too hard to fit

I called it the random number generator as it tends to get a bit confused around town when you change through more than one gear at a timne, eg when stopping at the lights. If you go linearly up and down the gearbox then there is no problem, although there is a bit of a delay between gears

It caught me out once or twice just after I'd got the bike, when turning into my road I glanced at it to see it said 3rd gear, so changed down into 2nd, only to discover I was already in 2nd, and the drop to 1st almost had me over the bars. Now I'm used to the bike I can usually tell when gear I'm in from the speed & revs, so don't have a problem.

It's good to see the 6 when I'm trundling along the motorway and looking for another gear to change up - usually happens around 115mph or so when the bike feels it could do with another gear

HTH

cheers
