Default Coolant fan & Sensor

Is there any way of checking that the fan and temperature sensor work?

I've not seen/heard mine start yet and I'd rather not find out they don't work untill the thing boils

Cheers

I assume you (Like me) have the nicer sexier shaped SV that lacks any temperature gauge.

I suppose you could short out the sensor and this should activate the fan.

I keep looking out for some kind of add on temperature gauge that I could mount on the bike as I too have a temperature paranoia. Once I hear the fan come in it takes a long time to go off when stuck in standing traffic at lights etc.

Although it is not really good for any engine, if you leave it ticking over for a few minutes the fan should kick in. I did it the other day to warm the oil before changing it.

The only other time I hear it kick in is after a hard ride and then pull up in town at some lights or a railway crossing

Having had the battery go flat on me twice now, 1st time regulator 2nd time dodgy contacts, it would be nice to have a charge meter or light telling me what the alternator is up to.

I have seen an oil temperature guage which screws into the oil filer hole and replace the cap. That would give you some idea of how hot the engine is when you ride hard

Good news - fan works

Bad news - regulator doesn't

Thanks though
