Just got off the phone after talking to the insurers
They've offered £3,300 (less excess of £250) which I suppose isn't too bad - it had done 9,500 miles & I'd given a value of £3,500 when insuring it Then I said I'd like to buy the bike back as salvage - only to be told that it would cost 40% - that's £1,320 ![]() So will I get back £1,320 in breaking it up ![]() The guy did say I could whip the alarm (datatool system 3) off the bike & the road tax as well All you vultures out there - how much are you prepared to pay ![]() |

![]() i thought the standard deal was 10%, at least that is what i paid for the remains of my scooter last year. oh, and can I please have the chewy tank raiser bits and your sv1000 snorkel. price? no idea but i'm sure we'll not fall out over it. ![]() |

That's figure is plain daft, a machine with a damaged frame or, as in your case, with broken crankcases it's worth scrap value, not salvage.
Insurance companies are completely clueless, if they offer it out to their contracted/preferred breaker or salvage dealer for that money they'll get laughed at.

That's nuts... my last bike - an ER5 - was lightly damaged (but I still rode it 40 miles home, at speeds up to 80mph, after the minor accident) and they wrote it off.
The other insurers offered £1650 for the lot, or £1550 and I could have the bike back. Was trying to decide what I'd do with it to get it all fixed up then my insurers offered £325 for the salvage and I decided to dump the old girl and take the cash. Sorry old girl! The crash I just had on the SV, I doubt I'd pay more than £200 for, and then only for the parts. Reminds me, must get down the yard and relieve bike of hugger, tax disc, etc. sometime soon... Unless you know something they don't, a crashed non-runner isn't going to be worth more than a few £100, and even then that's only to the previous owner who loved it! |

When my Bandit got written off, I got payed £3500, and they let me keep the bike for nought.
![]() ![]() I sold it on as a cat c job lot and got £1500 for it. End result I was in pocket by a couple of hundred quid. |

Just been looking at the pictures of your damaged bike. Assuming there is nothing problematic that isn't immediately obvious I think the answer to your question depends on whether you know anyone who is after a frame.
If you could get enough money for that then you'd probably clear a couple of hundred quid. Otherwise the money they are asking for is pretty close to the value of the parts. If, on the other hand, you could put another engine in there you could probably make a few hundred but you'd need to work out if it was worth the hassle. |
