My first gig appearance - SV650.org

Tonight I have my first gig appearance in a pub. I'm playing piano with a 75 year old jass singer whom I met briefly on sunday.

I've never played live before and I'm pooping myself. We've never rehearsed, i'm doing it from sheet music and the singer's never sung the song before.

Oh, it's handbags and gladrags.

Isn't that somewhat difficult? Wouldn't a standard keyboard have been a little less ambitious?

Good luck m8, don't focus on ppl out there ( i know its difficult when there are hot chicks about), just pretend that you are the only one there or everyone else is newbies at piano... and don't panic when you make a mistake.

Advise for pub/club gigs:

The majority of people there will be drunk, or on their way, so what seems like an long, awful 5 second silence to you, is a split second to them, they're not going to be fussed about sound quality.

Honestly, I used to DJ reasonably regularly and a had all sorts of hiccups that no one seemed to notice. Needles jumping, a mate tripped over the amp and yanked the power lead out, etc. the crowd will of forgotten it within 5 minutes.

Go out and try to relax and have fun. You will be bricking it all day today, but it'll get easier each time you do it. Best of luck.
