panniers or tankbag u decide - SV650.org

ok i can't decide what to do so any ideas. i am going away at the end of the month & can't decide weather to buy a set of oxford humpback panniers

or should i get the tank bag to match the tankcover i already have from bagster, i was thinking the athena one

The athena has the zip for the map pocket on the inside, and the map pocket is too small. Get the Tektra instead.

Depends how much you want to carry. The tank bags are ok for a small amount, but get in the way (for me) if they are filled up or you get a big one. Can't get down over the tank or duck down at motorway speeds.

Oh and panniers are better in cross winds and can hold more, but make it harder to filter. Hard panniers that can lock to your bike also mean that you don't have to lug them everywhere. Go on, buy a top box!

TBH, you can pack a lot into a rucksack, sweep inside a bin liner and bungy it to the tail. It won't affect your riding and bungy nets are really cheap. If your bag is very big get two nets or some gaffa. It will also be a lot easier to carry around when you reach your destination.

Unless you're talking about full on central london filtering then panniers (or pillions for that matter) make bugger all difference to filtering.

For proper trips get panniers, for commuting and day trips use a tank bag. Tanks bags can also be useful to support a little weight on long journies.
