Default Suffolk/Norfolk - recommended routes?

Hi gang,
Anyone prepared to share their favourite routes or know of web links to decent biking routes in this area?
Me and the better half are taking a week out from this coming weekend, starting in Ipswich.
Thanks in advance for any info
Leigh

you got a few ways to go..

1 - and best - Stour estuary , the best road is from Mamingtree /Mistley to Harwich, semi following the river, really great 7 mile twisty burn, do it a few times and get it right and get quicker...look out for the lorries on the way to boat.....and tractors, goes for all roads in the land of the tractor boys !

2 - Aldeburgh, Southwold, Thorpenss - nice fast burn up A12 towards Norwich, thrugh Glemham and the Hall, and then turn right and on to the coast, nice to go to coast and decent beach, also Waldringfield

3 - Hadleigh , Sudbury - not great

4 - Bury St Edmunds - average

5 - dont bother with Norfolk, i went all the way to Cromer - and wished i hadnt bothered !

have fun! check out the Orwell, go to Woolverstone / Pin Mill under the bridge , also the other side, towards Felixstowe, turn off for Levington and go to marina, nice nature reserve walk by river there Woodbridge is ok - river walk to Kyson point, then carry on to Bawdsey..should keep you busy

If you do make it up to Norfolk (I know its not great - I live here!) there is a great road from cromer along the coast to Hunstanton (see link)

Map Link Here

there are some nice villages/pubs/places to eat (Wells is good) and you'll find out that Norfolk has hills (OK it not the peak district but there's still hills)

I live in Wells and although the coast road to Hunstanton does suffer slightly from gravel in the road especially after a downpour, this is more a cruising route rather than a good burn.

If you want to avoid the coast route you can ride from Cromer on the A148 to Fakenham and then along to Kings Lynn, this is a pretty fast road.

Also from Fakenham, if you want to head back down towards Suffolk you have got the A1065 which runs through Swaffham, Mundford and Brandon which will then put you on the A11 at Barton Mills.

I took this route when going to Snetterton last sunday and although I am not a quick rider yet, this is a pretty fast road with good scenery.

I must agree this is a craking route and yes much faster than the coast road. The coast road does suffer from some sand drift too after windy days so its best not to cane it.

I didn't think there were any in Norfolk, the occasional bump but not a hill
