Default SV650 v Kwak ZX6R 636

Guys,

I have a real dilemma and would like some input from the people that know about these things..

This morning I acquired my new baby, a Silver 04 SV650S with 5K on the clock in very good condition. Which I bought through these very forums from Georgie Monster. I paid £2600 which was an absolute bargain and was very fortunate.

However on the way home we stopped at a bike shop in Leicester and they had a mint Silver 2002 ZX6R A1P (the 636 model) with 15K on the clock and offered me a straight swap for mine. It had been traded in this morning and they quickly stuck a £3k price sticker on to take as it was. But if it didn't sell this weekend, it will be serviced, cleaned and put up on their forecourt for £3500.

What do I do? Is this a good deal? Or am I just being blinded by the light (if you know what i mean). I have till the end of tomorrow to decide?

The hardest thing for me is that I adore ZX bikes and if funds had permitted would have had one but I was also very fond of the SV and its raved about reputation for new bikers.

Please help?

I'd say this is your perfect chance to jump up to the bike you wanted. They're different bikes and you need to go for the one that's going to give you the biggest grin yet be good for you to learn on - am assuming from your post you've not been riding long.

As a beginner bike the sv is probably friendlier, but it depends how you use the bike... are you happy with the sv so far? Have you ridden sports 600s before? If you can, have a test ride on the zx (or any IL4 600 sports) and see how it feels, you may not like it, you may prefer it to the sv. What else have you ridden?

2.6k for a k4 is an total bargain. think i said that when i saw it advertised.

id agree, a test ride is whats needed. if its not used for commuting then its all about how much u enjoy each bike.

whichever u do pls pm me to let me know how u get on. Im thinking of getting a sports 600 myself and i dont have much experience riding yet.

good luck and enjoy

Don't forget to factor in the cost oof the zx6.What state are the tyres, brakes and chain? It needs a big (expensive) service at 16000 miles, and mine needed headraces then as well.Insurance will be considerably more. After all that the zx is a great bike, but I promise you the dealer won't be doing himself down.

Thanks all...

I have never ridden a Sports 600, but all of my mates have them. Not that that sways me in any way merely just a trend amongst my crowd! My best mate has a GSXR600 and rode my bike back for me as I was in the car and he loved the SV.

I took the bike out this afternoon and have to be honest the only bike I can compare it was a ER500 from my training (I have been pillion on loads of bike but its very different to riding). The grin factor of the SV was huge and the engine does sound lovely...a real growl for the v twin! PLenty quick enough for me...but its the new bike factor more than likely. I remember how scared I was on the ER5 at first and then after my training and stuff was very used to it. Maybe it will happen with the SV...

The ZX is in very good condition, has been well looked after. Has had all the work done including the big 16Kservice. Has loads of receipts too. Tyres are good but don't know about brakes.

It has high miles cause it was used by a riding instructor in Leicester. It had to have some selectors about 5,000 miles ago as it was obviously being changed from 2nd to 1st a lot. But all work is reciepted and stamped by a main dealer. Only downside is the previous owner had a sticker fetish and so a hairdryer and fairy liquid would be in order. It has hugger, alarm and is very nice! Analogue clocks too which I didn't realise. I thought they would be digital!

I looked online and they seem to fetch from 3500-4000 depending on condition so baring in mind I only paid £2600 its not bad.

I was thinking that if I did swap it and not like it, I could always sell it and buy another K3/K4 SV and have not lossed anything!

Why aren't things so simple?

Screw Kawasaki, stick with the SV I say. But, that's just what I would do.

I think the Kawasaki will end up costing you more over the years than the SV in insurance and maintenance.

Do whatever you feel is right.
