Default SVs buggered!

Hi all, im very worried as my sv was really spluttering on the way home from the gp, and it was fine this morning, i filled it up with fuel as normal and i rode the 15 miles or so to donington park, parked up and left i for about 4 hours, in which time it absolutely threw it down with rain. I swear i heard clicking, but i coukdt tell wherethis is coming from. Has anyone else experienced this? are sv's known to screw up in the wet? Thanks, a very worried matt

Sounds like your front pot isn't firing properly due to water ingression into the plugs! Common problem easily fixed by a fender extender and sealing the plugs.

Get to Maplin and buy a tube of the nonconductive silicon grease, it's about £3. Now pull the lead slightly out of the front pot (not sure what the jargon is, I'm tempted to call it a HT lead?) so you can see the rubber "seal" that's not sealing. Splatch it all round with the silicon grease and push it back in, then smear a bit more around the seal. You can now ride through rivers and floods without problems, and without a fender extender either.

At least you got home Matt, My bike probably need a visit to the alarm doctor, or Pidcocks at least.

Water will kill most bikes and many cars, its only proper bikers who ride in the wet. Well done mate. How did you find the mad sunday run home from the park? :P

Fixed it, thanks very much mpaton2005 + kwak zzr. I'll do that tomorrow, northwind, as it was definately not sealing! wheelnut, i didnt even make it home! Went round to the missus as her dad has better tools, and it was closer. I found the ride home...different to ay the least! Bikes are good in traffic, but when there's 10,000 + bikes they tend to cause there own i found! Once i got on my own, above 6k or so it started behaving itself, but itreally wasnt having any of it in traffic. At least it was a simple fix!

I had exactly the same problem on the run back to London but thought it was the **** Esso fuel I had to use (Don't buy Esso, they bankrolled Bush and hate Kyoto!) . It seemed like a carb prob but wet plug was my second guess. I will try the silicone grease answer but wont it cook onto the plug or run off when it heats up? Would Vasoline do the job?

Default SV's buggered

I also had a bad run back from Donnington. My SV K4 stopped firing on the fron pot, in the outside lane of the M1!!! I managed to limp into Leicester Forest East services, and had to hang around there for the recovery people!

THe recovery guy found that the sparkplug was submerged in water!!! He has done a temporary fix, but my bike is not a very happy camper at the moment, so need to take it to the garage to get it sorted?

Will Suzuki take responsibility for it, or just brush it off as a spark plug problem, which isn't covered under the warranty? This is the 5th time it has happened in under a year.
