The standard bulbs are 45/45w H4, although most people have used 60/55w with no troubles, as with all plastic lensed headlights it's best to avoid unbranded bulbs as some are not adequately UV shielded which can cause damage to the headlamp lens, it's that not extra heat which is the usual culprit.

Evening.
As the Squid says, avoid non branded bulbs as they can cause your headlamp lenses to go cloudy due to inadequate UV shielding...
If it's better light you're after you can get 60/55 H4 bulbs that are anywhere between 30 & 60% brighter than a standard H4! This is achieved by mucking around with the gasses inside the bulb. They produce a really white light, whilst drawing no more current than a standard bulb....Another added bonus being that the beggar that has just cut you up at night is REALLY sorry should you happen to leave the main beam on for a minute or two due to the shock of the near miss!!

Cheers
