Default New K5 and security

Hello to you all, this is my first posting (only taken about 5 years!) I'm 99% certain to buy a sv650 k5 on Saturday but I'm a bit worried about security.
I had a vfr400 for 3 years with no problems but returning to biking again and finally with Mr Suzuki's finance offer this will be my first new bike. It will be fitted with an alarm/immobiliser but what other security devices would you suggest?
I thought about an Abus granite? disk lock for when I'm out but other suggestion and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

PS all other tips appreciated too, has much changed? I've been off the road for 3 years

Chris

Hi
avoid any locks with a 'round' key - the hollow ones
quite a number of them can be picked simply by using the end of a biro

I used to use 2 disk locks on my SV - front & back, and don't forget to get one of those coiled yellow cables that you stick one end round the throttle and the other end on the disk lock - you'd be amazed just how many people on this site have tried to ride off with their disk lock still on

Always try & park the bike somewhere busy - if the potential thief can't park his van nearby without being disturbed then you stand a better chance of keeping the bike

HTH

cheers

The datatag system 3 alarm is a good one to fit and better than the suzuki one. I use an English Chain superlink avaliable from Motrax for about 100 quid with free chain carrier), and Oxford 385 lock and an alarmed disc lock that goes off if it is moved. Also have a Motrax Ground hog anchor in the ground. Everything but the disc lock is Secure Gold or Thatcham insurance rated and u get discounts on insurance

The disc lock is an Xena xm10 which costs about 40 quid. you get a carrier for that and extra batteries and i have had the same batts in there a year and still going strong. You wont ever forget you have a disc lock on there as as soon as the wheel is moved it sets the disc lock alarm off

after having one bike stolen.. the only 2 things i reccomend are a big chain and a solod ground anchor.... and a shot gun......

but serioulsy,, if they cant pick it up and walk off withit , that eliminates the oppertunistic thief...

as for the rfessionals.. well... we all know NOTHING will stop them if they want it that bad..... (cept maybee the shotgun if u catch em at it)

hth and welcome..

Check out Busters.

I got a Xena chain / disc lock combination that has also got an alarm on the disc lock. It is Sold Secure Gold, so has went through all the rigorous testing.
It was rrp 160.00 and they were selling them for 80.00.
I thought that was quite steep at the time but having seen it, it is definitely the business.

I leave the chain in the garage wrapped around a 2 tonne bench and use the disc lock when I am out.
The slightest movement sets off an ear piercing siren.
Like I say....Check it out.

Have a look at www.almax-security-chains.co.uk, they have excellent chains and locks. I've got those and chain the bike to a tree every night.

Also, you could get a cover, having the bike out of sight helps stop the casual opportunist thiefs.

Thank you for all your helpfull replies the disk lock with alarm sound useful.
luckly at home she will be round the back behind 2 locked gates but I'll still use a large concrete block and chain.
