Default Generator Cover Removal

I have a slight oil leak from one of the generator cover bolts. I figured that it is probably a failure in the gasket so I ordered one.

When I came to fit it at the weekend I couldn't get the cover off. My manual seems to indicate all that is needed is to remove the bolts but as it is included as part of the whole disassembly of the engine I have probably missed something. Thinking about it, it looks like I need to remove the generator rotor bolt in the centr of the cover. Will this do the trick or is there anything else I need to do ?

I had all that side off when I replaced the starter motor clutch recently and, allowing for the fact that I'm not a trained Suzuki mechanic (and cue corrections from all those that are!!!), this is what I found:

You need to take all the screws out (obviously) and take off the clutch release mechanism cover and free the cable off. This will also give you a chance to clear out all the gunge that gets trapped behind there and clean up the rod/oil the mechanism etc.

The main cover itself has a dowel in the periphery to locate it. It's quite tight. There aren't any obvious prise pads but there is a bit of casting forward of the very front locating screw (in line with the starter motor). A piece of wood against it and a sharp tap (NOT a bludgeon!!) with a hammer should free both the stiction of the gasket and the dowel. Then it's just a wriggle.....

As I remember, the lower screws had some coated washers underneath the heads - I guess to stop oil creep....but don't quote me on that!! Just found one later that had not been put back, although it hasn't leaked so far.

All in all, it ain't difficult - just fiddly.
