Default Yea it's Friday ... Boo received a parking fine ..!

Being a newbie to London, I appear not fully aware of the parking rules for motorbikes.
I have been happily using my Sv to commute to work, but yesterday I left it at home and risked the tubes.

This morning I was at greeted with a sticky black and yellow parking fine stuck to the tank of my bike.
My bike was parked outside my home on the road which has a permit charge for two hours of the day. It was parked within the same bay as my car (which has a valid permit).!

I remember asking the permit office when purchasing my car permit that I didn’t need to purchase a permit for my bike. On a separate occasion I asked a traffic warden about parking my bike on permit/parking meter roads and was advised that it ‘should’ be ok if you park sharing a bay with a vehicle displaying a valid parking permit/meter credit.

Can someone explain where bikes can park if the road is permit parking and there are no solo motorbike bay’s near.
I already know you can’t park on the pavement (even if your clearly not obstructing any pedestrians), as I have already encountered a pleading conversation with a traffic warden to prevent getting a ticket.

I’m a little too accustomed to being able to ride in bus lanes and pretty much park where you like...

London is very confusing as the rules totally depend on the council whose area you're in.

For example, Wandsworth don't ticket bikes in permit bays (acknowledging the difficulties of having a permit on a bike) yet Southwark do (as I found out to my cost!). Southwark say that you have to park in a bike bay or else display a valid ticket/permit, despite the fact that thieving scum will come and take your ticket. Camden I believe expect you to have a ticket but allow you to take it/a receipt with you so that you can prove you've paid if you get a fine

Bit of a bummer that you already schecked with them and they still ticketed you though! You could try looking at the council website to see if they have info on there, might well be a newbie warden who doesn't know what he's doing, in which case i think I feel an appeal coming on!

In Westminster you get a ticket for almost everything. They also say you HAVE to have a permit to park a bike in a permit holders bay only.

There was a case in court where there was something along the lines of whether the pay parking for the space, ie you can fit as many vehicles in one bay as you want but only pay for the one vehicle or if you paid for the vehicle, ie even if you only used a minute percentage of a bay you still had to pay for each vehicle, but I never found out what the ruling was.

Call your council and just find out from them as a "general query" being new in town and all, get details of who you spoke to then use that info if relevant to contest the ticket.
