Default My clutch problem

Well i found out that my clutch does not need adjusting.

Cleaned out the push rod asembly, but realised imediatly that it was fine.

Removed clutch plates to find that they were with nearly no pad left, plus i had two broken plates in the pack (in half, two peices). Then i measured my springs to find that they were 48-49mm well under the 56 service limit and 58 standard. No wonder my clutch lever was very light.

So no go anywhere for me, getting mate to pick some up today & also see if he can get some springs as well. If not i will fit the plates then get the springs on monday.

Darn for me and expensive. £85.87 for the plates & springs.

I know i can get them cheeper but i need them now so its Spares Direct in north london which only have suzuki plates not EBC ones (aparently they say that there have been many problems with EBC and will not sell them, could just be so they make more money on the suzuki ones).

No worrey it least the plate did not explode (is that possable).

That certainly is expensive, I think plates are approx £40. I'm amazed that two of the plates were completely broken and the bike still functioned. What symptoms was it showing?

I know it is expensive, but when you need something and i cant get anywhere without it i have to pay the price.

No problems realy, just lastnight down to southend, in 6th with full throtle it redlined only doing 100-110. Off the lights it would redline while the bike picked up speed. Apart from that if pretty normal if you did not apply to much throttle in one go, if steady then it still did 130.

So it shows that some of the service limits that are specified in the haynes manual (for the clutch parts) can be exceeded (not recomended) and still the bike will run well.

I dont know how they could have broken but i am not happy that both the springs and plates are gone at the same time.

I think it is telling me that i need to have a good look at several other things, like valve clearances very soon.

Afternoon all.
Genuine plates are expensive but believe me they're a damn sight better that pattern ones! I too dislike using EBC plates & wont unless the customer insists on it. Don't forget to check the plain plates thoroughly (it's not a bad idea to replace these too). Check them for thickness and distortion, if they're ok LIGHTLY rub the surfaces down with some 600 grit wet & dry paper used wet, & then clean them thoroughly before reinstalling them.
EBC make terrific brakes, but a few years ago I was told by Andy Freeman who owns EBC that their clutch plates are made to a price, rather than to O/E standards. Says it all really!

Cheers.

Anyone tried the Barnett Clutch kit with Kevlar plates and Springs??

Are they any good, have been told that they are heavier duty and much better than OEM stuff. And cost seems to be just a tad more than OEM.

Evening.
Barnett clutches are an excellent mod in V-maxes & XJR1300's mainly due to these bikes having an excess of torque & a weedy standard clutch!!
Whether they're any good in SV's I couldn't say as I've never fitted one, but I would expect them to be at least as good, or better than the standard item. At, as has already been stated a greater cost.

Cheers

The springs are the same or cheeper than standard suzuki ones. I was quoted £3ea for suzuki originals and Barnett ones are about £15 for a set.

As for plates, this is an estimate. A set of TLS ones are £100 for 10 plates, so calculate to about £70 for 7 on the SV, i was quoted £68 for a set of original suzuki ones.

I check with PDQ on monday.
