im disputing this one with the police

I was riding through bristol in september on an A road where the speed limit was 50mph, im doing about 60 as you do! Then I see several cars flashing there lights at me and one guy is pointing at me.

A bit disturbed I pull over and check the bike is all ok, it is so I drive on. Still doing about 55 - 60 in the distance ( and I mean the distance ) I see a policecar with an officer with a speed trap gun.

So I instantly slow it down to exactly 50mph ( digital speedo you know the drill ) and as I drove past, I smiled smugly and waved at the policecar as if to say haaaa not today lads. So keeping at 50 mph I continually check my mirrors until the policecar is out of site. I remember it like yesterday. And it cant of done me from the front as we dont have numberplates.

today I get a speeding fine saying I was doing 66mph!

Im disputing it because it just cant be right. Opinions?

Does the date/time match up? Maybe they got you some other time, unmarked car perhaps?


Ask for the photographic evidence, and take it from there.

Recent unofficial tests have proved the hand held guns unreliable. The tests claim that a small amount of user error by originally pointing it to the back of your bike but move it to the front can increase the speed reading.

Unfortunately the police do not recognise these tests and have made a statement to the effect that these tests are no defense.

I called in and it was the speedgun, It was defiately this occassion because I never go to bristol. I went to look at a car, that was my only reason to go there and the date matches up aswell

It was the A4 Portway. Ive requested the photograph, I wouldnt dispute it if I thought it was true!

I think they can get a reading from the front and then note your numberplate after you have passed.

They can will do you for 57 in a 50 from several hundred feet away. If you had about 68-69 on your speedo that will correspond to about 66 in real terms.

man sometimes in the front of the van or car with a 2nd gun same goes for ppl goin other way they will catch ya

if it was a gun they should of pulled you over and don it there and then unless it was a van then they just make a recold
