Being a Lancastrian by birth and an Engineer by trade the man is a true hero. I remember watching the first episodes when I was a teenager and the fame never really changed him to the day he died.

Particularly like the episode from the early series when he finally gave in to his wife and took her and the kids for a holiday......to Blackpool.......where he spent two days felling a chimney in return for someone machining parts for his traction engine........and his wife had to help in the pouring rain while the kids sat in his clapped out old Land Rover :P

Seem to recall she left him not too long after that.

Don't think his first wife (Alison - named his traction engine after her) was much younger than him. His next two were though. :P
