Default Kids, Who would have em?

There was a recent thread about definition of being a man, to which I added taking responsibility for ones actions and commented on my son having got his first NIP and not yet fessing up to the old man.

Now I tend to work from home when I can to avoid the 145 mile commute to the office and today was such a day at home.

So there is a knock at the front door and there stands two guys aged about 40, Lets call them little and large. Large asks does xxxx live here. "Can I ask what this is about". Turns out that my wonderful son has reversed into the side of his car a month ago. agreed to settle without insurance, given them the wrong address and won't answer his phone to them.

Little is mouthy, says that he is going to take xxxx's van until he pays and wants they keys now. I point out that the van is currently my brothers property, and have taken their contact details. Little then wants to know where xxxxx works, what time he will be home etc. Large whose car was damaged seems reasonable and seems to accept my word that I will have a word with xxxx when he comes home and get him to call. They have told me they have an estimate for £150 and I know well the body shop where the quote comes from (Known them for over 44 years) and trust them implicitly so at least the cost of damage is correct.

I am tempted to tell large to take his car into the bodyshop. I will contact them and agree to pay them directly, just in case this turns out to be a scam to get the money without having the work done. But the rational part of my brain says why should I, time to face up consequences again young man.

Kids. who would have em?.

Bloody hell never ending agro! At least they delt with it themselves rather than reporting your son to the police.

Father inlaw had something similar a while back got woken up in the middle of the night to find baliffs wanting to take his van away. Reason son had not been paying his congestion charge and getting to the post first in the morning and chucking the penalty notices away

Oh yeah, and he still owes me that hundred quid I lent him - what, he didn't tell you? Well if you could pop it in the post Tim...

Actually I wouldn't like to be in his shoes tonight, good luck with that - we all do stupid things, particularly when we're younger (but in my case that doesn't necessarily apply ).

Couldn't agree more, if my son ever has a problem & discusses it with me openly & honestly i will help in any way i can, if however he tries to keep it away from me then he is on his own.

Tim...Caught in that terrible testing period of having a 15 year old boy I can empathise to some degree. However I think it only fair for your youngster to actually be asked about the situation first? You never know these two guys could be trying it on? Although they do have his mobile number?

That aside, yes he must face up to the consequences and difficult as it will be for you...you must see that he repays you for the cost of the repairs. He is not a child anymore and must feel the impact of his wrong doing.

Dont you hate it when some short a*se gets the attitude? If I could have resisted slapping him, I would have asked big boy to ask his friend to move away so that you could both discuss the matter sensibly.
